Heraklion: So, there’s been some movement in the case of Jean Hanlon, the Scottish mum who died in Crete back in 2009. Authorities in Greece have finally questioned a suspect linked to her death. This guy showed up at the Third Heraklion District Attorney’s Office earlier this week.

After being grilled by the prosecutors, he was let go on bail. Jean, who was 53 and from Dumfries, went missing after a night out on March 9, 2009. Sadly, her body was found in Heraklion harbour just four days later. Her three sons have always believed she was murdered and have been pushing for justice ever since.

Michael Porter, her eldest son, shared the news with the Record on Sunday. He called it a “leap in the right direction” for their quest for justice. He said it was a good week for their campaign, JusticeForJean, and they finally have a suspect who was interrogated.

Michael mentioned that the suspect has been released but with some restrictions. They really think this guy is the one responsible and hope he’ll face court for their mum’s murder. It’s a big step forward for them.

Jean’s body was found in the sea at Heraklion harbour over a decade ago. Earlier this year, the family brought in a private investigator named Haris Fluskounis to take another look at the case. He dug through evidence and even handed a detailed report to Greek prosecutors.

Haris believes he’s identified the man responsible for Jean’s death. This guy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, apparently stalked Jean after she rejected his advances. Haris used details from Jean’s diary to track down leads and interview people mentioned in it.

He said this case has finally reached a turning point after 15 years. The diary really helped piece together a timeline of events, showing how Jean was trying to escape from a man who wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Michael expressed gratitude for Haris’s work, saying he’s asked the right questions and helped them find answers. After all this time, the family is still hopeful for justice.
