A Guildford coffee roastery opens to the public, offering a unique coffee experience and a chance to taste the same brews as celebrities.
Guildford: Exciting news for coffee lovers! A local roastery is opening its doors to the public, and you might just sip the same coffee as stars like Jeff Goldblum and Ariana Grande.
This place, Cannon Coffee, usually sells to cafes and restaurants, but now you can see how your favorite drink is made. It’s a chance to learn about coffee while enjoying some tasty treats.
Chris Foulkes, who works there, shared that they’ve been mostly wholesale until now. But with their new spot in a busy area, they’re ready to welcome customers for coffee tastings and retail sales.
When you walk in, you’ll find a cozy shop with coffee essentials like mocha drops and espresso machines. Then, you can check out the roastery and see the coffee roasting process up close.
Many folks don’t realize that coffee comes from seeds inside cherries. Chris finds it amusing how people often miss that detail. He explained that the coffee bean is actually the seed of the cherry, which is processed before roasting.
They roast about a ton of coffee each month, which is quite a task. Chris described it as a mix of tech and art, comparing it to a washing machine and a barbecue combined.
Interestingly, they also supply coffee to movie sets. Chris mentioned that they’ve worked on shows like Bridgerton and Slow Horses, and they know some celebs have enjoyed their brews.
Since opening in 2021, they’ve focused on building direct relationships with farmers. Chris emphasized that they pay much more than the fair trade price, ensuring transparency about the farming process.
They offer coffee from four origins: Colombian, Brazilian, Chinese, and Ugandan. Each has its unique flavor profile, catering to different tastes. Their signature blend is a crowd-pleaser, combining chocolatey and nutty flavors.
While there are many roasters, Cannon Coffee stands out by allowing walk-ins. They want people to come in, smell the coffee, and maybe even try a few before buying.
The roastery is already open, but they’ll celebrate their official launch on January 11. If you’re in the area, it’s worth checking out!
