Rhossili: This beach is so stunning that it’s been dubbed the “supermodel of British beaches.” It’s also ranked among the top beaches in Europe.

Recently, outdoor travel experts gave it a fantastic score of 9.26 out of 10, naming it the best beach in Wales for winter strolls. With its long sandy stretches and perfect waves, it’s a dream for walkers and surfers alike.

Located at the tip of the Gower Peninsula, Rhossili beat out other popular spots like Whitesands and Marloes Sands for the top spot. The experts at GO Outdoors considered factors like rainfall and daylight hours to come up with their rankings.

Rhossili Bay is often listed among Europe’s best beaches and is a favorite in the UK and beyond. It’s got that perfect mix of being accessible yet not overcrowded, making it a lovely escape.

Marloes Sands came in third, while Whitesands took second place. Travel expert Simon Calder has called Rhossili “pristine” and “world-class,” and it’s even been named the UK’s most dog-friendly beach.

With its golden sands and gentle waves, Rhossili is great year-round. Families love it, and surfers can often be seen enjoying the waves just offshore. Plus, there’s an old shipwreck to check out, adding a bit of history to your beach day.

The remains of the Helvetia, which ran aground in 1887, can be spotted at low tide. The beach is surrounded by beautiful green cliffs, perfect for hiking, and leads to Worm’s Head, where you might see some local wildlife.

And if you’re looking for a unique place to stay, there’s a National Trust house with breathtaking views right above the beach. The Gower Peninsula is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, making it even more special.

In 2017, Rhossili was named one of the world’s top 10 beaches, the only European beach on the list. It’s also made it onto Lonely Planet’s 100 best beaches in the world for 2024.

Getting to Rhossili is easy, but it still feels like a hidden gem. There’s a car park for easy access to the beach and nearby walks, though it can get busy in summer. But don’t worry, the beach is so spacious that you won’t feel cramped.

For a place to stay, the Worms Head Hotel offers stunning views and a cozy atmosphere. You can also find Airbnb options in the area. The Old Rectory, a National Trust property, is a fantastic choice for a group, with its beautiful setting and spacious rooms.

It’s a bit pricey, though, with three-night stays starting around £1,500. But imagine enjoying that sunset view from the garden—totally worth it!

Despite its small size, Rhossili has some great dining options, including The Lookout and The View, plus the Worms Head Hotel itself. You won’t go hungry here!
