A student was left unconscious after an unprovoked attack in Cleethorpes, disrupting his university life and leading to legal consequences for the attacker
Cleethorpes: A student’s night out took a terrible turn when he was punched and knocked out. This incident has really shaken up his university life.
The attacker, an 18-year-old named Bailey McCabe, admitted to wounding the student without intent. The whole thing went down on Cleethorpes High Street last February. CCTV footage showed McCabe acting like he was in a boxing match before he threw a serious punch.
According to the prosecutor, McCabe confronted the victim, boasting about his fighting experience. The victim was just there to celebrate a family birthday and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
After seeing someone get hurt at the party, he went to check it out. Next thing he knew, he was on the ground and couldn’t remember anything. It was totally unprovoked.
McCabe didn’t stick around after the punch. He ran off but later went to the police station when they were looking for him. The victim ended up in the hospital, and his studies took a hit because of this incident.
He was aiming for a First Class degree but has been feeling anxious and lost confidence since the attack. McCabe’s defense lawyer mentioned that he’s a young guy and that no weapon was involved, saying it was a spur-of-the-moment thing.
McCabe works at a Morrisons warehouse and hopes to get a permanent position soon. His lawyer said alcohol played a role in his actions, and McCabe promised to avoid getting drunk again.
References from his school described him as a good kid, but the judge pointed out that turning 18 doesn’t mean you’re ready to handle alcohol responsibly. She emphasized that the victim expected a fun night out, which was ruined by McCabe’s actions.
The judge made it clear there are consequences for such behavior. McCabe received a suspended sentence and was ordered to do community service and pay compensation to the victim.
