Gillian Hogg expresses outrage over the lenient sentence given to her ex-husband for years of domestic abuse
Jedburgh: Gillian Hogg, the ex-wife of rugby player Stuart Hogg, is really upset about the sentence he received for abusing her. She feels it’s not a punishment at all. After he walked out of court, she couldn’t believe how lenient it was.
Stuart could have faced jail time or community service, but instead, he got a Community Payback Order. This means he’ll be supervised by social workers, which Gillian thinks is a joke considering the years of abuse she endured.
He tracked her with an app and sent her over 200 distressing messages in just a few hours. Gillian said it feels like he’s gotten away with everything. She’s relieved she won’t have to deal with him for five years, but she wants more recognition for the pain he caused.
During the sentencing, the sheriff mentioned that he believes Stuart will comply with the order. But Gillian thinks it’s not enough. She’s looking forward to moving on with her life without him.
Gillian also pointed out that Stuart’s career shouldn’t have been a factor in the sentencing. There are calls for him to lose his MBE after he pleaded guilty to domestic abuse charges. His behavior reportedly worsened after they moved to England for his rugby career.
She sought help from a domestic abuse service after suffering a panic attack due to his relentless messages. The police were called to their home multiple times because of his aggressive behavior. It’s been a tough road for her, and she’s just trying to find peace now.
Dr. Marsha Scott from Scottish Women’s Aid commented that the sentences for domestic abuse often seem trivial compared to the severity of the crimes. Gillian’s story highlights the need for more serious consequences for such actions.
