Gillian Hogg expresses outrage over the leniency of Stuart Hogg’s domestic abuse sentence, calling it unfair and inadequate.
Hawick: So, Stuart Hogg’s ex-wife, Gillian, is really upset about the sentence he got for the domestic abuse he put her through. She feels it’s just not fair at all.
After Hogg walked out of court, Gillian couldn’t believe he wasn’t given a harsher punishment. She thought he might end up in jail or at least get some serious community service. Instead, he got a Community Payback Order, which means he’ll be supervised by social workers.
It’s wild to think he tracked her with an app and sent her over 200 distressing messages in just a few hours. Gillian said it feels like he’s gotten away with everything, and she’s just relieved she won’t have to deal with him for five years.
During the sentencing, the sheriff said he believed Hogg would comply with the order. But Gillian thinks his rugby career shouldn’t even be a factor in this situation. There are calls for him to lose his MBE, especially since he pleaded guilty to domestic abuse.
Gillian shared how his behavior changed after they moved to England for his rugby career. She even had a panic attack after he bombarded her with messages, despite asking him to leave her alone. It’s heartbreaking to hear how much she suffered.
Police had to step in last February when Hogg was shouting and swearing at home. He was told not to contact her, but it’s clear the damage was done. Now, he’s living in France and trying to get back into rugby after announcing his retirement last year.
People are really speaking out about how light the sentence was. Dr. Marsha Scott from Scottish Women’s Aid pointed out that these kinds of sentences are often way too lenient for the serious impact of domestic abuse.
