Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg is set to be sentenced for domestic abuse against his estranged wife after pleading guilty
Selkirk: So, former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg is in some serious trouble. He’s about to be sentenced for admitting to domestic abuse against his estranged wife, Gillian. This all came out when he pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Hogg admitted to some pretty alarming behavior over five years. He was shouting, swearing, and even tracking her movements. Can you believe that? He sent her messages that were really distressing.
He’s already been banned from contacting her for five years after breaching bail conditions. One night, he bombarded her with 28 texts! That’s just wild.
Last month, he was supposed to be sentenced for the domestic abuse charge, but the judge decided to hold off until January 9. They want to figure out if he can get a community order since he’s living abroad now.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Hogg would often berate Gillian for not being “fun” after nights out with his mates. He even sent over 200 texts to her in just a few hours. That’s a lot of messages!
He’s set to appear in court again on Thursday. It’s been a rough ride for him since he’s also going through a divorce. The couple moved to Exeter in 2019 with their three young kids, but things took a turn for the worse as Hogg’s behavior spiraled.
In 2022, Gillian went out one night and got bombarded with texts from him, which caught the attention of her friends. It’s just sad to see how things have unfolded.
In 2023, after deciding to leave him, she sought help from a domestic abuse service. The court heard that Hogg’s messages were so overwhelming that they caused her to have a panic attack. That’s just heartbreaking.
Police got involved last year when he was shouting and swearing, leading to his arrest. He was placed on a bail order that prohibited him from contacting her or going near their home.
Hogg retired from professional rugby last July but then signed with Montpellier for a two-year deal. It’s a shame to see someone with such a promising career facing these serious issues.
