Storm Eowyn is set to unleash 90mph winds and heavy rain across the UK, causing widespread disruption and severe weather warnings
Birmingham: So, Storm Eowyn is really making a name for itself, huh? Weather maps are lighting up in red and black, and it’s got everyone on edge. The Met Office is throwing out amber warnings, and they’re not kidding around. We’re talking heavy rain, strong winds, and even some snow in the mix.
The amber warning covers a good chunk of central Scotland, northern England, Wales, and all of Northern Ireland. That’s from 6am to 9pm on Friday, so folks need to be ready. But even if you’re not in that zone, there are yellow warnings all over the UK, from the Shetland Islands down to Cornwall. It’s going to be wild.
WXCharts is showing some serious wind speeds, climbing from 46mph to over 90mph. That’s no joke! The storm is expected to hit hard starting Thursday, bringing a lot of rain from the east. And Friday morning? It’s going to be wet and windy, with snow kicking off in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Wales and southwest England are in for a soaking too, with up to 60mm of rain possible in some areas. Plus, there’s a snow warning for northern Scotland on Friday morning. Mike Silverstone from the Met Office is sounding the alarm, saying this storm could cause major disruptions.
Storm Eowyn is set to sweep across Northern Ireland early Friday, then head northeast into Scotland. The strongest winds will hit Northern Ireland, southern and central Scotland, and northern England, with gusts possibly reaching 90mph. That’s definitely something to watch out for!
As the storm moves on, it might weaken a bit, but it’ll still be breezy, especially up north. On the bright side, it looks like drier weather is on the horizon for most of the UK, with showers replacing the heavy rain in some areas.
