BBC’s Judith Ralston warns of Storm Éowyn, urging Scots to stay updated on severe weather alerts as heavy snow and winds approach
Aberdeen: So, there’s this big storm, Storm Éowyn, that’s about to hit the UK, and it’s got everyone buzzing. Judith Ralston, a BBC weather presenter, is sounding the alarm, saying it’s unlike anything she’s seen in her career.
The Met Office has issued weather warnings all over the UK, especially in the north-east. We’re talking heavy snow and winds that could reach up to 90mph. Yikes! An amber alert is in place for Friday, covering a lot of the country from early morning until the evening.
Now, not every part of Aberdeenshire is in the thick of it, but there are still yellow warnings for wind and snow. The yellow wind warning kicks in at midnight on Friday and lasts until Saturday afternoon, while the snow warning starts early Friday and wraps up by noon.
Judith is urging everyone to pay attention to the forecasts. She posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying this storm is serious and we should keep an eye on the Met Office updates. It’s a good idea to stay informed, especially with all the warnings flying around.
The Met Office is predicting travel disruptions as rain and snow sweep through Scotland. They mentioned that rain will start in the morning, but it might turn to snow, especially in the hills. Accumulations could happen, but they’ll mostly be on higher ground.
In some areas, we could see 2-5 cm of snow above 100 meters, and even 15-25 cm in the higher spots. With those strong winds, blizzard conditions could pop up, especially in the northern parts.
So, if you’re in Aberdeen or nearby, keep your eyes peeled for updates. The weather is expected to be wild from Friday to Sunday, with rain and snow kicking things off, followed by some serious winds. Stay safe out there!
