Storm Eowyn is set to be one of the worst storms in Ireland’s history, prompting nationwide warnings and school closures.
Dublin: So, it looks like Storm Eowyn is about to hit Ireland hard. The whole country is under a Status Red wind warning starting Friday. Met Eireann is saying this storm could be one of the worst we’ve ever seen.
They’ve issued five Red wind alerts for all 26 counties. We’re talking about some serious winds, with gusts over 130 km/h. That’s no joke! Schools are closing down for the day, and everyone is being told to stay put.
The National Emergency Co-ordination Group had a meeting and made it clear: if you’re in a red warning area, it’s best to shelter in place. Only emergency workers should be out and about, and even then, only if their boss says it’s okay.
Keith Leonard, the chair of the group, mentioned that we might see even more people losing power than during Storm Ophelia back in 2017. That storm left over 385,000 people in the dark, so this is serious.
Here’s a quick rundown of the areas affected: Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, and a bunch of others. Each area has its own warning times, so keep an eye on that.
They’re warning us about potential dangers, like life-threatening conditions, travel chaos, and even structural damage. It’s going to be a wild ride, so stay safe out there!
There’s also a Status Orange wind warning for the whole country from 2 am to 5 pm on Friday, plus a yellow rain warning for some southern counties. Just a heads up!
