Surrey braces for Storm Eowyn with strong winds and heavy rain expected, causing potential travel disruptions this Friday
Surrey: Strong winds are on the way as Storm Éowyn hits the UK. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the entire southeast, including Surrey.
From 5 AM to 3 PM on Friday, January 24, expect gusts up to 50 mph. If you’re traveling that morning, be ready for delays on the roads and railways. Flights from Heathrow and Gatwick might also face disruptions. The Met Office warns of possible power outages and service interruptions.
Initially, Surrey wasn’t on the warning list, but the Met Office updated it on January 22 to include the whole southeast and London. A spokesperson mentioned that as the storm moves across the northwest, winds will pick up, especially in exposed areas.
The southern part of Surrey will feel the strongest winds, with towns like Haslemere facing gusts of 57 mph. Guildford, Woking, Redhill, and Weybridge will also see strong winds, but things should calm down by 3 PM.
Rain is also expected, starting at midnight and getting heavy between 3 AM and 6 AM, wrapping up by 9 AM. With all this weather, the Met Office suggests checking road conditions and travel schedules to avoid delays.
While the south braces for impact, the north will see even stronger gusts, especially in Northern Ireland and northern England, where winds could exceed 80 mph. Heavy rain will add to the unpleasant conditions.
As we head into Saturday, the winds should ease, but more rain is on the way for Sunday and Monday, particularly in Haslemere. So, keep an eye on the weather!
