Yorkshire: Storm Eowyn is about to unleash some serious weather on the region. We’re talking 90mph winds and snow, which is no joke. An amber warning is in effect, meaning we could see power cuts, traffic chaos, and debris flying around.
On Friday, January 24, the Met Office has issued three weather warnings for Yorkshire. A yellow warning for snow will hit northern North Yorkshire from 3am to noon. Then, there’s another yellow warning for wind affecting places like Leeds, Sheffield, and Hull, lasting all day.
But wait, there’s more! An amber warning for wind is also in place for areas like Harrogate and Bradford from 6am to 9pm. This one really emphasizes the danger to life due to flying debris and potential power outages. Winds could even exceed 80mph!
And if that’s not enough, Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland are facing a rare red ‘danger to life’ warning. So, it’s serious out there.
TransPennine Express is advising folks to avoid traveling between Manchester, Liverpool, York, Newcastle, and Scotland. If you have tickets for Friday, they’re valid from Thursday to Monday, so you can change your plans if needed. Refunds are also available since delays and cancellations are expected.
And just when you think it’s over, a massive wall of snow is set to follow the storm, affecting a huge stretch of the UK from North Devon to East Yorkshire. So, keep your eyes peeled!
