Sandon Primary Academy in Stoke-on-Trent will close tomorrow for safety due to icy conditions on site and nearby streets
Stoke-on-Trent: So, it looks like Sandon Primary Academy is shutting down tomorrow. The school’s headteacher, Rachel Beckett, made the call to keep everyone safe.
She sent out a message this evening, giving parents a heads-up to sort out childcare. With temperatures dropping to around -6C tonight, the roads are pretty much like ice rinks.
This week has been rough for schools in Stoke-on-Trent and nearby areas. Many have had to close because of the heavy snow. In her letter, Mrs. Beckett explained that the school site and the side streets are just too dangerous right now.
She mentioned that the combination of foot traffic and freezing temps has turned the snow into slippery ice. After checking the weather forecasts and doing a risk assessment, they decided it was best to keep the school closed on January 9.
Mrs. Beckett also said they wanted to give parents as much notice as possible. They’ve been monitoring the situation since early morning, and it’s clear that the icy conditions are not improving.
While they know not everyone will be happy with the decision, safety is their top priority. They’re just trying to keep everyone safe and sound during this chilly weather.
