Stephen Fry, Sadiq Khan, and Gareth Southgate receive knighthoods in the New Year Honours, celebrating their contributions to society and sports.
London: So, guess what? Stephen Fry, Gareth Southgate, and Sadiq Khan just got knighted in the New Year Honours! How cool is that? They’re being recognized for all the amazing stuff they’ve done.
Fry, the actor and comedian, is known for his work on shows like Blackadder and QI. He’s been a big advocate for mental health and the environment. He said he was totally surprised and thrilled to get the news about his knighthood. It’s nice to see his charity work getting some love!
Then there’s Gareth Southgate, the former England football manager. He led the team to some big matches, including the Euro finals. Even though he stepped down after a tough loss, he’s still being honored for his contributions to football.
And let’s not forget Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London. He’s been in the role since 2016 and is recognized for his public service. He shared how humbled he felt to receive this honor, especially coming from a council estate in South London.
It’s not just them, though. Loads of athletes from Team GB are also getting recognized after their success at the Paris Olympics. Keely Hodgkinson, who won gold in the 800 meters, is among them. She’s had an incredible year!
There’s also a lot of recognition for people who fought for justice for those wrongfully convicted in the Horizon IT scandal. It’s a big deal, and it’s great to see those efforts acknowledged.
Overall, more than 1,200 people received honors this time around. It’s a nice reminder of all the hard work and dedication people put into their communities. The New Year Honours really shine a light on those unsung heroes!
