A Grimsby couple’s festive light display has raised an impressive £3,340 this year, bringing their total to nearly £20,000 for St Andrew’s Hospice.
They decked out their home with thousands of lights, and folks from all around came to see it throughout December. Martin mentioned that if it weren’t for Storm Darragh hitting Grimsby early in the month, they might have hit over £4,000 this year.
On their opening day, they raised £339, and Christmas Eve brought in another £319. Martin is pretty proud of how well it all turned out, especially since he makes sure everything is secure, even in high winds.
As the holiday season wraps up, Martin is busy packing away the lights and a festive Santa sleigh that was a big hit at the grand opening. The event featured live music from the Back to Brass band and The Can’t Sing Choir, which entertained the crowd for over two hours. Kids loved getting their pictures taken with Santa, too!
Looking ahead, Martin is already brainstorming ideas for next Christmas. He loves seeing the joy his display brings to families, and he’s committed to keeping this tradition alive.
He shared how special it is to see the excitement on children’s faces, whether or not they donate. It’s all about creating a bit of Christmas magic. Over the years, they’ve raised between £300 and £400 in the early days, but the community’s generosity has helped them reach that impressive £20,000 milestone.
Emily Aitken from the hospice expressed her gratitude, saying the work the Connollys put in is incredible. She highlighted how important community support is for the hospice, which relies heavily on donations to keep its services running.
