A South London nightclub, Gaffe, can now operate until 3:20 AM on weekends after council approval, promoting safe cultural events.
South London: A new nightclub called Gaffe is opening up. The council has dropped its objections. This venue can now host 150 people and stay open until 3:20 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s located off Wandsworth Road and aims to be a cultural hub.
Gaffe, also known as Commune Studios, will have club nights on weekends. During the week, it will host DJ workshops and birthday parties. DJs like Hodge, Parris, and Seb Odyssey are set to perform soon. The club’s owner, Luca Marchal, wants to create a space for artists.
At a recent council meeting, Marchal shared his vision. He mentioned that the venue has been a safe space for the LGBT+ community. He noted that many events had to be turned away due to licensing issues. He believes South London needs more cultural venues like Gaffe.
The club is situated in a railway arch between Clapham and Battersea. After facing initial rejection in 2024, Marchal returned with a new application. This time, he included extra security measures like ID scanning to address concerns.
Hannah McInerney, a promoter, praised Gaffe after hosting a sober rave there. She said attendees felt very safe and highlighted the venue’s soundproofing. She noted that the venue had minimal noise impact on the neighborhood.
However, one resident raised concerns about noise and broken glass after events. Councillors approved the club’s application with conditions. They emphasized the need for a safe environment for customers and locals.
Cllr David Robson, who chaired the meeting, commended the well-prepared application. He expressed confidence that the club’s plans would meet licensing objectives.
