A student was found guilty of raping two women in Stockton, causing emotional reactions in court.
Stockton: A student is facing serious consequences after being found guilty of rape. Haider Ali, 31, was convicted of three counts of rape by a jury at Teesside Crown Court.
His family reacted loudly in court when the verdict was announced. Ali raped a pregnant sex worker in a derelict building last year. He also assaulted another woman just hours before that.
The two victims did not know each other. Ali was arrested the next day after police sought information from the public.
He had his passport with him, claiming he was going to see a solicitor. Ali moved to Middlesbrough in January 2024 to study computer games programming.
He worked part-time at a pizza shop and lived in a shared student house. Ali claimed he agreed to pay both women £20 for sex but denied the rapes.
His relatives protested loudly as the verdicts were read. The judge warned them to be quiet. Ali will be sentenced after a pre-sentence report is completed.
The judge mentioned that a significant prison sentence is likely. Ali was remanded in custody until the sentencing date on March 17.
