Edinburgh: A recent poll suggests the SNP will be the biggest party at Holyrood. Scottish Labour is expected to lose seats, showing a significant change in voter support.

The poll, conducted for The Herald, shows SNP support at 31% for constituency votes. Labour trails behind with 19%, while the Lib Dems and Greens are at 10% and 13%, respectively.

Scottish Tories are at 12% for constituency votes, with Reform at 13%. Alba is lower, at 2% for constituency votes and 7% for list votes.

Polling expert John Curtice predicts the SNP will win 51 seats, down from 64 in 2021. Labour is expected to secure 16 seats, losing six in the process.

The Conservatives, Lib Dems, and Greens are projected to win 15 seats each. Alba may get eight, while Reform could secure nine seats, leading to a pro-independence majority.

Curtice noted that Labour’s struggles continue, allowing the SNP a chance to form the next government, though from a weaker position than before.

The poll surveyed 1,334 people between January 15 and 20. If a Westminster election were held now, 31% would vote SNP, while 18% would choose Labour.

Support for the Tories stands at 12%, with the Lib Dems at 10% and Greens at 7%. This could result in 31 seats for the SNP, 11 for Labour, six for the Lib Dems, and five for the Tories.
