£800,000 allocated for new Skipsea homes by the council. It assists residents displaced by coastal erosion, managed by Broadacres Housing Association.
The government is funding this contribution through the Changing Coast East Riding project. The council got £15m for it back in 2022, as part of a larger, national program run by the Environment Agency, which is a £200m program.
The homes will be located on old farmland and will have two or three bedrooms. They are designated for social rent and shared ownership, addressing the rapid coastal erosion in East Yorkshire, where some areas lose up to 4.5 meters each year.
The new housing will significantly increase social housing availability along East Yorkshire’s coast, a region in great need. This project will allow people to stay in their community, with priority given to those at risk from coastal erosion.
Coastal erosion poses real problems in the East Riding, and the council aims to support these communities and secure coastal regions for the long term. Broadacres is pleased with the council’s support in these efforts.
They’re finalizing these development plans and expect to announce more news soon. These homes matter a lot to locals, and Broadacres appreciates the partnership with the council, along with the help from other funders, to deliver these homes.
