Bootle: Police had to seal off Bedford Road and nearby Antonio Street after a shotgun was fired. It all kicked off just after 6 PM when folks heard a loud bang and shouting.

Witnesses reported seeing a guy with what looked like a gun before he jumped into a car and sped off. Not long after, a white Vauxhall Astra crashed into a parked car on Antonio Street.

The Astra was pretty banged up, sitting right in the middle of another police cordon. Its windscreen was smashed, and the bonnet was all crumpled. Detectives are also looking for a silver estate or 4×4 that was spotted around the same time.

Forensic teams were out there searching the area and even found a spent shotgun cartridge. Thankfully, there haven’t been any reports of injuries, and local hospitals haven’t seen anyone hurt from a shooting.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy mentioned that they’re just starting their investigation. He stressed how dangerous it is to fire a shotgun in a residential area and assured the community that they’re committed to catching those responsible.

He added that they’re determined to get rid of firearms from the streets and urged anyone with information or footage to come forward. If you were in the area and have dashcam footage, they want to hear from you!

Anyone with tips can reach out to Merseyside Police via social media or call 101 with the incident reference number. They’re also encouraging people to contact Crimestoppers anonymously if they have any info.
