A sex offender has relocated from Stoke-on-Trent to Cambridgeshire after his criminal history surfaced, causing community outrage and harassment.
Stoke-on-Trent: So, there’s this guy, Warren Potts, who’s been kicked out of Stoke-on-Trent. He’s now trying to start fresh in Cambridgeshire.
Why? Well, his past isn’t pretty. He was locked up for 15 years back in 2011 for some serious sexual crimes. When folks in Stoke-on-Trent found out, it caused quite a stir.
He got into trouble for not telling the police he was off to Spain and for not registering his new passport on time. That’s a big no-no when you’re on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
He ended up pleading guilty to two charges about not following the rules. The court gave him an 18-month community order, plus he has to do some rehab activities and pay a fine.
During the court hearing, they mentioned he traveled to Alicante in September without notifying anyone. The prosecutor laid it all out, saying he didn’t register his passport within the required time and didn’t give the police a heads-up about his trip.
In his defense, Potts claimed it was just a mistake. He had the passport for a couple of months and simply forgot to register it.
His lawyer mentioned that he and his partner went on holiday to celebrate his birthday. They’re even planning to get married soon, and he takes care of her.
But when the news broke, their neighbors were not kind. They faced a lot of harassment and scrutiny, which made their lives pretty miserable.
