Newport: The M48 Severn Bridge is still closed for the second day due to Storm Darragh. This storm is really packing a punch, with winds hitting 78mph this weekend.

A spokesperson from National Highways mentioned that the bridge won’t reopen until at least midday today, which is Sunday, December 8.

Just yesterday, both Severn Bridges had to shut down because winds were expected to reach up to 90mph. The Met Office even issued a red warning, saying it posed a danger to life.

Some drivers trying to cross from England to Wales are being rerouted miles north, which is adding about three hours to their trips. That’s a real hassle!

Storm Darragh is causing all sorts of trouble, bringing heavy rain, flooding, and even train and bus cancellations across the UK. This comes just weeks after Storm Bert caused significant damage in many areas.

Flood alerts are in effect across South Wales, including places like Newport, Monmouthshire, Caerphilly, Ystrad Mynach, and Bargoed. They’re expecting flooding from the River Usk and the River Rhymney.

Natural Resources Wales is advising everyone to steer clear of the seafronts for safety.
