Scunthorpe: A talented group of Performing Arts students from North Lindsey College is gearing up for their first public production. They’re bringing their own version of ‘A Monster Calls’ to life on stage.

The cast includes 21 dedicated students from the full-time Acting pathway. Among them are nine final-year students who have snagged over 30 offers from drama schools and universities across the country. It’s a big step toward their acting careers!

The story, written by Siobhan Dowd and Patrick Ness, follows Conor, a young boy dealing with grief while caring for his sick mom. A Monster shows up to help him through tough times.

This powerful tale was adapted for the stage by the Bristol Old Vic in 2018 and even made it to the big screen with Liam Neeson. It really hits home with its emotional depth.

Charlie Thompson, who plays Conor, shared, “The course has given me everything I need for drama school. Tackling plays like ‘A Monster Calls’ has helped me grow as an actor and brought us together as a team.”

The show is set for Thursday, February 6, at Frederick Gough School. It’s going to be a great night!

This production is a team effort, with digital students competing to design the promotional poster. Over 20 entries were submitted, and Tyler, a Level 3 Creative Media student, won with his heartfelt design dedicated to his mother.

“I’m so thrilled my poster was chosen for the show,” he said, capturing the essence of the performance perfectly.

Tickets are available for just £5, and you can grab them by scanning a QR code.

Laura Dent, a Performing Arts Tutor, said, “This play tackles tough themes and complex characters. Rehearsing such an emotional story has pushed our students to elevate their performance skills and explore new storytelling techniques.”

Mark your calendars for 6pm on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Frederick Gough School. Don’t miss out!
