Swansea: The annual pantomime is back at the Grand Theatre, and it’s a big deal for families. This year, they’re putting on “Jack and the Beanstalk,” a classic that everyone loves.

The show is produced by Imagine Theatre, and it’s all about the Trott family, who are struggling to keep their cow, Buttercup, while a giant looms over them. It’s a fun twist on a familiar tale, set in the charming ‘Merry Mumbles.’

Scott Mills is the star this year, fresh from his new gig at BBC Radio Two. He plays Mayor Mills, and he’s got some great jokes, including a cheeky nod to Zoe Ball, who he replaced. He even throws in some local slang, which gets the crowd laughing.

Mark Read from the boyband A1 is also in the show, playing Jack. He’s got great chemistry with Christina Harris, who plays Jill. Fans will love his performance of “Take On Me,” getting everyone to clap along.

But the real stars are the comedy duo Matt Edwards and Kevin Johns. Matt, known for his magic tricks, brings the laughs as Larry Trott. And Kev, a Swansea legend, plays Dame Tilly Trott, arriving in a flashy outfit and cracking jokes that have the audience in stitches.

Fairy Ffion, played by Celyn Cartwright, guides the story, while Jo Osmond as Poison Ivy keeps things exciting with her villainous antics. The show is packed with sing-alongs and fun moments, making it perfect for families.

The digital set and lighting really enhance the experience, especially during the classic “It’s Behind You” scene. Plus, the panto supports great causes, encouraging donations for charity.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” runs until January 5, so gather the family and enjoy a delightful evening at the theatre. It’s a festive tradition that’s sure to bring smiles all around.
