A heart surgeon in Scotland is facing a potential ban after being convicted of harassment and assault against a woman
Edinburgh: A heart surgeon from Scotland is in hot water after being convicted of harassment and assault. Dr. Vincenzo Giordano, who works at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, is now facing a possible ban from practicing medicine.
He was found guilty of assaulting a woman back on November 12, 2022, and the court case wrapped up on November 28. The details of what happened are a bit murky, but it’s clear that he followed the woman before the assault took place.
Interestingly, he got an absolute discharge, which means he won’t face any punishment for his actions. However, he’s also under a non-harassment order for a year, so he can’t contact the victim at all.
Now, Giordano has a hearing coming up with the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service later this month. They’ll decide if he’s fit to keep practicing in the UK or if his registration should be limited.
The hearing is set for January 13 and could last until January 21. The tribunal will look into the details of his conviction and the non-harassment order he received.
Giordano has been with the Royal Infirmary since 2012 and became a consultant in 2015. He studied medicine in Italy before moving to the UK in 2017. NHS Lothian, his employer, isn’t commenting on the situation since it involves an individual employee.
