A Scottish dad is now famous online. He lives in the USA with his family. Kyle McDaid’s videos are very popular, showing Americans struggle with his accent.

Kyle is from Kilmarnock, Scotland, and now lives in Washington State. His TikTok videos get millions of views, capturing everyday talks with shop workers who cannot understand his Scottish way of speaking.

He is 33 and works in telesales. Kyle often uses an American accent to help people understand him better. Some Americans think he sounds Russian or Australian, but he wants to share his American experiences.

His TikTok account is called ScottishInTheUsa. People back in Scotland find his videos funny and have been left in stitches watching. Kyle shared that he works from his house, and his work requires him to make calls where he uses an American accent because many people do not understand him otherwise.

Kyle wanted to show what life in America is like, from a Scottish person’s view, and the cultural differences caught his eye too. People focus on his accent in the videos, and they have guessed his accent wrong many times, asking if he is Russian or maybe even Irish. Australian is another common guess, and rarely does anyone think he is Scottish.

The videos get a funny reaction from people, and these small, everyday moments are usual for him. People all over the world, even back in Scotland, find them funny. In one video, Kyle asks for a water bottle, and the shop worker looks confused by his accent, hearing “waboo” instead of “water bottle.” Kyle repeats himself with no luck and switches to an American accent to be understood.

In another video, he goes to Costco, and an employee asks him where he is going. Kyle says, “To get a membership,” but the worker hears, “A maple ship?” He has to change his accent again to get his point across.

Commenters online really enjoyed Kyle’s frustrations. One person said they tone down their accent when traveling, but America was the first place they mimicked the accent. Another commenter is also Scottish and went to a store in Vegas and could not get anyone to understand sunscreen, which they described as a very difficult moment.

Kyle moved to America eight years ago and misses parts of Scotland, though. He says life in America is different, with people smiling and greeting you on the street and fewer fights on nights out too. While the burgers in America are great, Kyle does miss a good fish and chips, as well as Scottish Chinese or Indian food. His TikTok account has millions of views.
