A Scots man convicted in a child abuse case insists he has never viewed pornography despite serious allegations against him
Glasgow: A Scots man, Iain Owens, was found guilty of being part of a paedophile ring. He was in a drugs den where some pretty horrific stuff went down. During a court hearing, he claimed he had never watched porn, which raised a few eyebrows.
The trial revealed some shocking details, including allegations of Satanic rituals and drug use. Owens, 46, is facing serious charges, including gang rape and attempted murder. He’ll be sentenced later this month at the High Court in Glasgow.
Interestingly, the court dropped the Satanic ritual charges, and the jury cleared everyone of the dog-killing accusation. But the risk assessment showed Owens as a “high risk” for future offenses, which isn’t surprising given the nature of his crimes.
Professor David Cooke, the risk assessor, pointed out that Owens has some serious issues, including sexual sadism and paedophilic disorders. He mentioned that Owens was evasive during interviews and seemed to blame others for his situation.
Owens’ defense argued that his phone didn’t show any evidence of child-related activities, just drug dealings. But the risk assessor wasn’t convinced, saying that if he were released, he could pose a danger to vulnerable kids.
The hearing is still ongoing, and it’s clear that the court is taking this very seriously. It’s a tough situation, and the community is understandably concerned about the implications of his potential release.
