A man in Edinburgh had a close call with a falling tree during Storm Eowyn, narrowly avoiding disaster while out for a quick errand.
Edinburgh: A Scots man had a terrifying experience when a tree came crashing down just inches away from him during Storm Eowyn.
Barry Will, 28, was on his way to grab a work phone when the massive tree fell right at his feet on Regent Road. He was lucky to escape what could have been a fatal accident.
He had left home just before the red weather warning kicked in, thinking he’d be quick. But as he approached the pedestrian crossing, the tree uprooted and fell, blocking his path.
“I was about to cross when this huge tree just came down,” Barry recounted. “It completely covered the crossing just as the light was about to change.”
He realized that if he hadn’t stepped back, he would have been crushed. “It was so big, there was no way to escape if I had tried to run,” he said, still shaken by the close call.
The tree also narrowly missed hitting Barry’s favorite pub, The Regent Bar. He mentioned how his friends and family were shocked by the storm’s intensity and relieved he was okay.
“Everyone was stunned. No one expected the storm to hit so close to home,” he added. Storm Eowyn brought winds up to 90mph, causing chaos across Scotland.
While many stayed indoors, some of Barry’s friends were forced to go to work, which frustrated him. “Nothing is worth that risk,” he said, reflecting on the situation.
Police Scotland advised people to avoid traveling in areas affected by the severe weather warning. Barry’s experience serves as a reminder of how unpredictable nature can be.
