Severe weather has led to multiple school closures across Greater Manchester today, affecting students returning from the holidays
Greater Manchester: A bunch of schools and colleges are shut today because of the wild weather. After a snowy weekend, rain and freezing temps have made things messy.
There are two weather warnings from the Met Office for heavy rain and snow and ice. Flood alerts are also in place, and many schools in Oldham are closed when kids should be heading back after the holidays.
Some areas are still dealing with the aftermath of the New Year’s floods. Manchester Airport had to close its runways this morning due to snow but reopened them around 7:15 AM. Travelers should brace for delays.
Plus, several roads are blocked because of flooding, like Woodhead Pass and the A555. The M62 was also closed eastbound earlier but has since opened up again.
Sunday morning brought a thick layer of snow, causing a lot of chaos. There are currently six flood warnings and 11 less severe alerts around Greater Manchester and Warrington.
