A 9-year-old boy’s joy turns to heartbreak after flooding destroys his Christmas gifts and home in Liverpool
Liverpool: A little boy named Jacob has been crying every day since his Christmas presents, including a shiny new PS5, were ruined by flooding on New Year’s Day.
His mom, Karolina, got a heartbreaking call from her ex-partner, who lives in Haydock. He told her their home was completely submerged in water.
That day, heavy rain caused chaos across Merseyside, with many homes left under six feet of dirty water after the Sankey Canal overflowed. It was a nightmare for the community.
Karolina shared that she and Jacob were celebrating New Year’s in Manchester when she got the call around 10 AM. She couldn’t believe it. They had just enjoyed a great night, and now everything was ruined.
Jacob’s dad saw the flooding while walking the dog and called Karolina. He gently broke the news, saying they had nothing to come back to. She was worried about what they might have lost.
She thought it would just be a little water, but it turned out to be much worse. They lost everything downstairs, including their new floor and all the Christmas gifts. Jacob was so excited on Christmas Day, and now he’s heartbroken.
It’s been over a week since the flood, and they’ve been crashing on friends’ couches or staying in hotels. Karolina said they’re just taking it day by day, waiting for insurance money to help with accommodation.
She took Jacob out for dinner, but he was still upset, not understanding why they were apart. She’s relieved they weren’t home during the flood, so he didn’t have to see the destruction.
Now, they’re looking for a local landlord who can rent them a place for a few months until their home is livable again. Karolina is hopeful, but it’s tough finding someone willing to help for just a short time.
