School Pays Tribute to James Wilton, Killed in Ukraine

A headteacher remembers a past student. James Wilton, aged 18, died in Ukraine. A Russian drone killed him. He left college to help fight there.

His family worried about this choice. James wanted to help those suffering. This happened in July. A drone strike ended his life. An American tried to save him, but his wounds were too serious.

The attack occurred in Terny. This village is on the eastern front. James died during his first mission. He ran between trenches and the field offered no cover.

James’ dad is Graham. Graham didn’t support his son’s decision. He called James polite and likable. They shared their Lindley home before James went to Ukraine to fight.

His former school remembers him fondly. Jenny Carr runs Royds Hall. She said the school is very sad that James Wilton, a former student, died. He was a valued member of the school community.

James left the school in 2022. He got into Kirklees College afterward. He was well-liked at Royds Hall. The school sends condolences to his family and remembers his friends.

Kirklees College also shared their sorrow. They are deeply saddened by James’ death. They send thoughts to his family and friends, as this is a very difficult time for them.
