A massive fire in Mission Valley, San Diego, has prompted evacuations as firefighters battle the blaze threatening nearby homes
San Diego: A serious fire is causing quite a stir in Mission Valley. Residents are being told to stay away while firefighters work hard to get it under control.
It all started near Avenida De Las Tiendas, and some folks have had to evacuate their homes. A lot of firefighters are on the scene, and they even have air support to help tackle the flames.
You can see smoke billowing from the hillside, and evacuation orders are in place for homes close to the fire. The San Diego Fire-Rescue teams arrived super fast, within just six minutes.
Local businesses are shutting down, and everyone is being urged to keep their distance. The San Diego County has issued an official notice saying there’s a vegetation fire near Friars Rd and Via de la Moda, and it’s threatening nearby structures.
They’ve reported that the fire has spread to about 1.5 acres. An Evacuation Warning is in effect, which means there’s a potential risk to life or property.
Fire crews are making good progress on the Friars Fire, but they’re asking everyone to avoid the area around Friars Rd., west of 163. It’s important to listen to the police and fire officials.
Unfortunately, there have also been power outages affecting around 3,000 residents since about 12:30 p.m. local time. Stay safe out there!
