Rupert Lowe expresses outrage over asylum seekers near schools, raising safety concerns and calling for action from the Home Office.
Great Yarmouth: Rupert Lowe is really fired up about the situation with asylum seekers hanging around schools. He took to X to share his thoughts after police called it a “cultural issue.”
Lowe, who represents Great Yarmouth, is not holding back. He’s worried about the safety of kids walking home from school with asylum seekers nearby. He thinks anyone who feels okay about it is “deluded.”
He painted a pretty vivid picture, saying it’s unsettling to have a hotel full of “unchecked foreign males” right next to a school. He’s frustrated that there was no consultation about this situation.
He even suggested that if MPs are so confident about this, they should welcome these individuals into their own homes. But his request to create a scheme for MPs to do just that was turned down by the Home Office.
This all comes after complaints about men loitering outside Deanshanger Primary School in Milton Keynes. The police promised to address the situation and talk about “appropriate behaviors” for the asylum seekers.
The school, located in a small village near Milton Keynes, is right next to a hotel that’s been under police scrutiny for suspicious activities since it opened three years ago.
Parents were alerted last month about men hanging around during school drop-off and pick-up times, and they’re taking it seriously.
Sergeant Lorna Clarke from the local police said there’s no evidence of any crimes happening and urged people not to take matters into their own hands.
Lowe continued to voice his concerns, saying that illegal migrants shouldn’t be near schools at all. He believes they should be detained securely instead of roaming freely.
He also asked the Home Office to set up protection zones around schools near migrant hotels, but they refused. He’s frustrated that residents aren’t even informed when a hotel is being used for asylum seekers.
He feels strongly that the Home Office should prioritize the safety of communities over providing accommodations for asylum seekers. He’s calling for a national security emergency regarding this issue.
In a recent speech, he emphasized that the UK should send a clear message: if you come here illegally, you’ll be deported, not given a comfortable place to stay.
Lowe has also been pushing for a national inquiry into grooming gangs, but that idea was shot down by MPs recently.
He’s been vocal about the need to deport foreign nationals involved in these crimes, including their families who knew what was happening.
This topic has even caught the attention of Elon Musk, leading to some political back-and-forth. Labour politicians are accusing Reform and the Conservatives of using the issue for their own gain.
The Prime Minister has pointed out that more inquiries could slow down efforts to tackle child sexual abuse, especially since recommendations from a previous investigation are still pending.
