Dudley: A big argument has started after Dudley Council announced it will stop its commercial waste collection service. Starting in April, businesses will need to hire private companies to handle their waste. This change worries many, as it could increase costs for struggling businesses.

Halesowen MP Alex Ballinger is asking the council to pause these changes. He wants businesses, charities, and community groups to have time to adjust. Ballinger noted that local businesses are already under pressure and need more time to find new waste providers.

Local charities are also concerned about rising costs. They fear these expenses will be passed on to consumers. Ballinger mentioned that fly-tipping is a serious issue in the area, especially near Foxcote Fields. He worries that the new changes could make this problem worse.

Trish Bradley from Crafting for Communities shared her worries too. She said their small charity is classified as a commercial waste provider. Finding affordable alternatives is tough, and they feel stuck without options.

Council member Damian Corfield explained that the council’s current service is limited. New government rules require businesses to separate their waste, which means changes are necessary. He mentioned that many businesses will need to find food waste services soon.

Corfield added that providing the new services would need a lot of investment. The council decided to stop the service because they couldn’t guarantee enough demand. All customers have been informed about this decision.
