Rob Brydon reveals he almost passed on the role of Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey, joking about his celebrity lookalike Ben Miller.
Cardiff: So, Rob Brydon recently had a laugh about how he could’ve been replaced by Ben Miller as Uncle Bryn in Gavin & Stacey. He shared this during a fun chat on a podcast with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett.
He almost turned down the role, thinking it might typecast him. Can you believe that? He was worried about being stuck in a similar role after doing Marion and Geoff. But in the end, he realized how great the script was and jumped in.
Rob also talked about how family life shaped his choices. He didn’t want to be away filming all the time, especially after having kids. He wanted to be around for them, which is totally understandable.
He joked that if he hadn’t taken the role, it might have gone to Ben Miller, who he’s often confused with. It’s funny how people mix them up! Rob said, “It’d be Ben Miller, wouldn’t it?”
He really loves being part of Gavin & Stacey, saying it’s a treat to be in something so cherished. He’s had a blast playing Bryn, calling it like slipping into comfy slippers. How sweet is that?
This Christmas, fans will get to see him and the rest of the cast in the final episode, airing at 9pm on Christmas Day. It’s going to be an emotional goodbye!
