Lanarkshire residents are urged to stay vigilant amid a surge in car thefts linked to frost-jacking incidents
Lanarkshire: Residents are on high alert after a wave of car thefts hit the area. Police are warning folks about something called ‘frost-jacking.’
Basically, it’s when thieves take advantage of people leaving their cars running to defrost them. This morning alone, there were four reported cases!
In Hamilton, three cars were snatched from Brankholm Brae and Whitecraig Gardens. Another one was taken in Coll, East Kilbride. Plus, there was an attempted theft on Burn Road in Chapelton.
Police are still investigating these incidents. Just last week, a 66-year-old man tried to chase down a thief who stole his BMW while it was warming up in his driveway.
That BMW was taken from East Kilbride, and just days later, the cops found it five miles away in Blantyre. Crazy, right?
A police spokesperson said, “Please be aware of frost-jacking. Leaving your car unlocked and running is a big temptation for thieves.”
So, if you’re in Lanarkshire, keep your eyes peeled and don’t leave your car unattended while it’s defrosting!
