A new affordable housing proposal near Amazon in Sutton Coldfield aims to address previous concerns while reducing the number of homes planned
Sutton Coldfield: A fresh plan for affordable housing near the Amazon fulfillment center has been submitted. Morro Partnerships is teaming up with Midlands Land Portfolio to get the green light for this project.
Last year, there was a proposal for homes on this land, which used to be an animal sanctuary. But it got pulled back after some pushback from locals and officials. Now, the new plan is looking to build 26 homes instead of 35, focusing on affordable rent.
They’re planning a mix of homes, including three-bedroom and two-bedroom houses, plus some one-bedroom maisonettes. The layout has been adjusted to make it more appealing and functional.
There will be ten three-bedroom homes with nice wide frontages, and a couple of three-bed homes with side entrances. Plus, eight two-bedroom homes and a few one-bedroom maisonettes are in the mix, all designed to fit well with the area.
The developers have also added a new footpath and a play area for residents to enjoy. They’re making sure the homes are set back a bit from existing houses to keep everyone feeling secure.
All the homes will be affordable, aiming to create a sustainable community. The design is meant to blend in with the local vibe while being eco-friendly and accessible.
Councillor Ken Wood has noted that the developers seem to have listened to feedback from the last proposal. However, he’s still worried about access for waste collection vehicles and the security of existing homes nearby.
Residents can check out the planning application on the Birmingham City Council portal and share their thoughts before March 17.
