Usk: So, guess what? A retired ski instructor is back on the slopes just four months after getting a knee replacement. Richard Eklof, who’s 62, had his second knee done last November. Can you believe it?

After years of skiing and playing rugby, his knees were pretty worn out. But he’s super grateful for his rehab team, his wife, and his surgeon, Andrew Miller, at Nuffield Health Cardiff and Vale Hospitals. They really helped him bounce back.

Richard, who used to run a software engineering business, had both knees replaced in just two years. He was thrilled with how quickly he recovered from the second surgery, which was less invasive than the first. That made all the difference for him.

He shared that he struggled with knee pain for about five or six years before finally deciding to go for surgery. He tried everything from braces to injections, but nothing worked until he got the replacements.

It was exactly four months after his surgery when he hit the slopes again. Dr. Miller praised Richard for his quick recovery, saying he’s a great example of how modern surgery and good physiotherapy can lead to fantastic results.

Richard couldn’t stop thanking his care team at the Vale hospital, where they’ve done over 350 Mako robotic joint replacements. He said the care was top-notch and really appreciated the team effort.

His advice? Keep your weight in check and take care of your knees. Wise words from someone who’s been through it!
