Pembrokeshire County Council has approved plans for a new respite care facility at Portfield School in Haverfordwest, enhancing support for students.
Haverfordwest: Exciting news! Plans for a respite care facility at Portfield School have been given the thumbs up. This is a big win for the students and their families.
The facility will have three beds and cater to students aged 16 to 19. It’s all about providing extra support for those who need it most.
Portfield School is a special place for kids aged three to 19, and it’s part of a larger network of schools in the area. They’re really focused on helping every student thrive.
Right now, the school operates from two buildings. One is for the younger kids, and the other is for older students. The new respite care will be built where the lower school is currently located.
They’ve already got plans in motion to demolish the lower school as part of a bigger redevelopment project. This includes a new primary school building and some upgrades to the sixth form area.
According to the planning folks, the spot for the respite care was already marked out for future development. Initially, they weren’t sure about funding, but now the money is available, so they’re moving forward.
The goal is to create a welcoming space for the students, with a nice entrance courtyard and plenty of access to nature. It’s all about making the experience as positive as possible.
Only the students using the facility will have access, and it will be open 24/7. There will always be staff on hand to provide full-time care, ensuring the students are well looked after.
County planners have conditionally approved the application, so things are looking good for this new facility!
