Fears grow among Leeds residents over late-night pub plans near housing
Leeds: Residents are pretty anxious about a pub’s plans to extend its hours. They’re worried about noise and potential trouble if Number Thirty Three stays open late.
Over 40 locals have signed a petition against the idea. They live near Marsden Court, a sheltered housing scheme, and fear that late-night crowds could lead to crime and chaos.
The petition mentions concerns like fighting, loud music, and slamming car doors. Initially, West Yorkshire Police had some worries too, but they backed off after talking with the pub owner.
If approved, the pub could stay open until 2 AM on weekends, serving drinks until 1:30 AM. A licensing committee will decide soon whether to allow this change or add more conditions.
Some conditions already agreed upon include having CCTV, training staff, and checking IDs. The police want to ensure staff know how to handle customers who might be too drunk or unwell.
Leeds City Council is set to review this application at a hearing on January 14. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out!
