Glasgow: Residents in a neighborhood are really fed up with their council. They’ve been missing bin collections for ages, and it’s causing a lot of headaches. Folks at Bishopsmill Court in Yorkhill are at their wits’ end, having to hire private rat catchers and even buy their own bins.

They’ve been fighting hard just to get their bins emptied. One resident shared that they went two months without a collection, even though they live close to a depot. Now, they’re seriously thinking about paying for private collections after nearly ten years of this hassle.

The bins are piling up, and it’s not pretty. One resident, who didn’t want to be named, said this has been going on since 2017. They’ve gone up to six weeks without a collection, which is just ridiculous.

They’ve talked to the managers at the Western Depot, but it seems like no one can get the workers to do their job. It’s baffling. The resident wonders if the workers are refusing to collect because of complaints or the rat problem, which, let’s be honest, is a mess created by the council.

It’s gotten so bad that management had to escort a bin lorry onto the property just to make sure the bins were collected. For a while, it worked, but as soon as the escort stopped, so did the collections.

One day, the resident saw the neighboring student flats getting their bins emptied and asked if they could do the same for them. Turns out, those students pay for a private service. It’s frustrating when you’re paying for a service that you’re not getting.

Now, homeowners and tenants are seriously considering private waste collection. They’re even thinking about taking Glasgow City Council to small claims court if things don’t change. It’s either that or let the rats take over.

They’ve spotted up to 40 rat nests around the bins, and it’s getting out of hand. The rats are even starting to invade homes. With all the rubbish piling up, it’s like a buffet for them. On windy days, trash blows into the River Kelvin, and it’s embarrassing for everyone living in such a historic building.

Residents have raised their concerns with local politicians and the council, but they’re not holding their breath. After eight years of similar promises, they’re losing faith that anything will change.

Glasgow Live reached out to Glasgow City Council for a comment, but it’s clear that residents are tired of waiting for solutions.
