Residents are worried about a proposed park and ride in Hull, fearing traffic and pollution issues from the new development.
Hull: Residents are worried about a new park and ride plan. They say, “Everyone here is worried.”
The East Riding Council received plans for a 500-space park and ride. It would be located south of Raich Carter Way, near the Dunswell roundabout. The site would also have a bus depot, drive-through units, and a petrol station.
People living nearby, especially on Evergreen Drive, have raised concerns. They fear more traffic on Dunswell roundabout and nearby roads. Noise, light, and air pollution are also big worries. Local resident Tim Mitchell said this development feels too industrial for a residential area.
Even though the application is with East Riding Council, the boundary with Hull City Council is very close. This means Hull residents must contact East Riding Council to voice their objections.
Hull City Councillors David McCobb and Paul Drake-Davis support the residents. They represent the Beverley & Newland Ward, where the nearby houses are located. Cllr McCobb noted that the park and ride would significantly impact local traffic.
Cllr McCobb encouraged residents to share their views. He said, “If you think this development is wrong for the site, please write to East Riding Council.”
Planning documents suggest the park and ride could improve links between Hull and Beverley. They claim it might reduce traffic congestion during peak hours, despite residents’ concerns about increased traffic.
