Over 130 planning appeals in Leicestershire await decisions, with several controversial projects under review by inspectors
Leicestershire: There are over 130 planning appeals in the works right now. Some of these are pretty interesting, like new housing estates and even a metal container for windsurfing gear.
When councils reject planning applications, it’s not always the end of the line. Applicants can appeal, and a Government inspector will take a look to see if the council made the right call. If the council drags its feet, that’s another reason to appeal.
One big project under appeal is for 100 homes in Queniborough. The developer, Hallam Land Management, already has permission for 160 homes but is pushing for this second plan because the council didn’t decide in time.
They wanted to wait until both plans were approved before moving forward. The hearing is set for March, and council members said they would have approved it if they had the chance.
Another project in Barwell is also up for debate. Developer Redrow wants to build 95 homes, but the council said no back in June. They’re hoping the inspector will change that decision in the spring.
In Billesdon, there’s a chance for 48 homes on Gaulby Road if Church Farm Billesdon Ltd wins its appeal. They were turned down in May, but the inspector is still reviewing the evidence.
In Scalford, there’s a plan to demolish an old cottage and replace it with a modern house. The cottage dates back to 1750, and some locals aren’t happy about it. The appeal just started, so we’ll have to wait for a decision.
Asfordby has a unique case with a new three-bed house that needs a bridge for access. The council said no, but the applicant argues it’s necessary. The hearing date is still up in the air.
Lastly, in Charnwood, there’s a battle over a steel storage container in Watermead Country Park. The county council wants to keep it for a windsurfing club, but some locals think it’s an eyesore. The appeal process is ongoing, but we don’t know when a decision will come.
Stay tuned for updates!
