Monmouth faces a red flood warning as rising River Wye levels threaten homes and roads
Monmouth: The town is in a bit of a pickle right now. Flooding is a real concern as the River Wye is rising fast, and the banks aren’t protected. It’s a tough situation for the locals.
They’ve issued a red flood warning, which means things could get serious. Residents are being warned that the undefended areas are likely to see some water action soon.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is on it, saying immediate action is needed. They’re keeping a close eye on the river levels, which are definitely above normal.
A spokesperson mentioned that flooding to properties is expected, and low-lying areas are already seeing some water. They even had to close the rowing club underpass gates to keep everyone safe.
There’s also a yellow flood alert for other parts of the River Wye in Monmouthshire, so folks need to stay alert. Earlier today, there was a flood alert for the River Usk in Newport, but that’s been lifted now.
