Storm Éowyn is bringing severe weather to Stoke-on-Trent, with red and amber alerts in place for strong winds and heavy rain
The skies are already looking gloomy, and we can expect heavy rain and some pretty gusty winds. But hold on, because tomorrow is when things really ramp up. We’re talking stronger winds and hours of rain.
Northern Ireland is getting a rare red warning for wind, while the north of England is under an amber alert. Plus, there are yellow warnings for wind and rain all over the place.
Right now, North Staffordshire is under a yellow alert that kicks in at midnight and lasts until late Friday night. The red warning for Northern Ireland is no joke, running from 7am to 2pm on Friday, warning of “very dangerous conditions.”
Winds in Belfast could reach a whopping 85mph! Back in Stoke, today’s highs are around 6C, but it’ll feel more like 2C with those winds hitting 40mph. The rain should ease up around 3pm, though.
Tomorrow, expect rain to start falling around 1am, with winds picking up to 55mph by 5am. It’ll be sunny later, but still chilly, feeling like 2C even if the thermometer says 7C.
Saturday is looking cold too, with a morning low of 0C that feels like -3C. By the afternoon, we might see 5C, but the winds will be much calmer.
Sunday won’t be much better, with light rain expected and gusts up to 46mph. Mike Silverstone from the Met Office warns that Storm Éowyn is going to cause widespread disruption on Friday, so stay safe out there!
