A man befriended two women outside a pub, then attacked one after offering a ride home
Walsall: A man attacked a vulnerable woman after meeting her outside a pub. Ben Johnson offered her and her friend a ride home. Instead, he drove them to his house.
When the woman’s friend left the room, Johnson assaulted her. The friend returned and quickly called a taxi upon seeing the situation. This incident happened on June 24 last year.
Johnson, 33, was arrested days later. He claimed the encounter was consensual. However, he was found guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court and is expected to receive a lengthy sentence.
Detective Constable Kelly Webber from West Midlands Police emphasized that women should feel safe. She noted Johnson’s predatory behavior, taking advantage of the woman’s vulnerabilities.
Webber praised the young woman for her bravery and assured that support is available for victims of sexual abuse. The police are committed to putting offenders like Johnson behind bars.
A spokesperson confirmed Johnson’s conviction for raping a vulnerable woman in Walsall last summer. He had befriended the women outside the pub before the attack.
