Gerrard Charnley’s sickening diary revealed his twisted thoughts and obsession with child abuse, leading to a 14-month prison sentence.
Widnes: Gerrard Charnley, a 52-year-old man, shocked everyone when he declared he was “proud to be a paedophile.” He kept a diary filled with his disturbing thoughts.
Police found his diary along with a massive collection of child abuse images. They couldn’t even count how many files he had downloaded. It was that bad.
In court, it was revealed that Charnley had a list of children he wanted to harm. He had been obsessively collecting indecent images from the dark web, showing a serious problem.
When officers raided his home, they seized 12 electronic devices. They found documents he created, including one titled “My Paedophile Diary,” which detailed his horrific desires.
One entry from 2016 stated he wanted to rape a specific girl and was proud of it. His diary also had lists of websites for viewing child abuse material.
Charnley had over 15,000 images and thousands of videos, many of which were extremely graphic. He even downloaded manuals on how to abuse children.
During questioning, he admitted to having a sexual attraction to children but claimed it was just a fantasy he would never act on. His defense argued he was struggling with mental health issues.
In the end, Charnley was sentenced to 14 months in prison. The judge expressed how shocking the case was, noting the sheer volume of material found.
Charnley also received a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender for the next decade. As he left the courtroom, he acknowledged his guilt and expressed remorse.
