Prince Andrew finds renewed purpose as a grandfather after his daughter Beatrice’s new baby, Athena, arrives amidst personal challenges.
London: Prince Andrew has been keeping a low profile at his Royal Lodge. He spends his time watching planes and playing video games. After several scandals, he’s become quite isolated from royal duties.
This week, Andrew got some good news. He became a grandfather for the fourth time! His daughter, Princess Beatrice, welcomed her second daughter, Athena.
A royal expert suggests this could be a fresh start for Andrew. He might take on the role of a “doting grandfather.” He and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, live together at Royal Lodge and are excited about their growing family.
Andrew first became a grandparent in February 2021 when Princess Eugenie had her son, August. Beatrice also had her first child, Sienna, later that year. Eugenie welcomed her second child, Ernest, in May 2023. Andrew even has a step-grandson, Wolfie, who is eight years old.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes these five grandchildren can help Andrew focus during tough times. She mentioned that family is becoming increasingly important for him now.
Bond also noted that the Duchess of York will be thrilled with baby Athena. She praised Beatrice and her husband for choosing a unique name. While Athena’s middle names honor the late Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret, the first name is Greek and doesn’t follow royal traditions.
Bond thinks it’s a lovely name and hopes the royal family will embrace more modern names. She believes we might see more Athenas popping up soon!
