The Reconciliation Ministries Church in Preston has received approval for a new three-storey extension on stilts to enhance its facilities
Preston: A church in Preston just got the thumbs up to build a three-storey extension on stilts. The Reconciliation Ministries Church, located on Lancaster Road North, is close to the police station and aims to bring all its facilities under one roof.
Right now, the church operates from a single-level building that has an open space for gatherings, some toilets, and a small kitchen. But their offices are stuck in a separate three-storey building on the same site.
With the new extension approved by Preston City Council, it’ll sit right next to the current worship area. The cool part? It’ll be on stilts, leaving the ground floor open for parking. So, all 11 parking spots will still be available.
The stilts will be about 2.4 meters off the ground, which is pretty neat. The planners did note that the new building will be taller than the others around it, reaching 9.8 meters at its peak. But since it’s sandwiched between two existing buildings, they don’t think it’ll mess with the look of the street.
Interestingly, a similar plan was approved about ten years ago but never got off the ground, and that permission has since expired.
