Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire face weather warnings for heavy rain and strong winds, raising concerns about potential flooding this New Year’s Day
Ceredigion: So, it looks like New Year’s Day is starting off a bit rough. The Met Office has put out weather warnings for strong winds and heavy rain across Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire.
The yellow wind warning is in effect until 3 PM today, and it’s been active since midnight. Meanwhile, the rain warning has been around since New Year’s Eve and will last until 11 AM today.
According to a spokesperson from the Met Office, we can expect some strong winds that might cause a bit of disruption. They’re predicting gusts of 65 to 75 mph along the coast, which is pretty wild!
Inland, the winds will be a bit calmer, but still strong, with gusts around 45 to 55 mph. They’re also warning about a cold front bringing heavy rain, so it’s best to stay alert.
As the day goes on, the winds should ease up a bit, but it’s going to be a chilly start to the year with some rain and maybe even a few wintry showers.
The Met Office is advising everyone to keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for possible flooding, especially in areas that might be more prone to it.
They recommend checking if your property could be at risk and maybe even putting together a flood plan just in case. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
A spokesperson from Ceredigion council also mentioned that residents should stay updated on the weather forecasts and take care while traveling.
Natural Resources Wales is on alert too, monitoring river levels and ready to issue flood alerts if needed. They’re keeping a close watch on the situation, so let’s hope everyone stays safe out there!
